When we two partedIn silence and tears,

Half broken-heartedTo sever for years,

Pale grew thy cheek and cold,

Thy vows are all broken,

【賞析】

這首詩是詩人拜倫在述說他某段感情上的巨大的遺憾和悲傷。詩人 “悼念” 他難以彌補(bǔ)的損失：他不僅失去了讓人難以自拔的浪漫愛情，而且也失去了他對愛情的天真無邪。

拜倫英俊帥氣的外表和他詩中的男人形象（拜倫式的英雄），讓他深受女性的追捧，因而他一生游走在女人中間，孜孜不倦地追求那永不逝去的、象春天一樣的情愛和浪漫，一旦失去了這種愛，如同失去了一年中最好的時光 —— 春天，由此不難理解《春逝》翻譯的含義，詩人是以一個受害者的身份（拜倫式的英雄）在講述他遭被叛、被拋棄，失戀后愛恨交織在一起的感受。
